How to Use the Pomodoro Timer
Using our online Pomodoro timer is simple, but following a structured approach can multiply your productivity. Here is a step-by-step guide to getting the most out of your focus sessions.
Step 1: Plan Your Session
Before hitting start, know exactly what you will be working on. Use our built-in Task Manager to write down your tasks and estimate how many 25-minute Pomodoros each task will take.
Step 2: Start the Timer
Once you have selected your task, click START. For the next 25 minutes, you must commit to working only on that task.
- Close out irrelevant browser tabs.
- Put your phone on 'Do Not Disturb'.
- If a random thought pops up, write it down on a piece of paper and immediately return to the task.
Step 3: The Short Break
When the alarm rings, stop immediately. Do not keep working, even if you are in a flow state. The break is essential to let your brain rest.
During the 5-minute short break, step away from your desk, stretch, grab a coffee, or look out a window to rest your eyes.
Step 4: The Long Break
After completing 4 Pomodoros (roughly 2 hours of work), our timer will automatically suggest a Long Break (usually 15-30 minutes). Use this time to eat a snack, take a short walk, or completely disconnect from your workspace.
